Terms of Use

Version 1.0 · Effective 4 August 2026

These Terms are the agreement between you and SetLight ("SetLight," "we," "us") for use of the SetLight service. By creating an account or using SetLight you agree to them. Please read the Music Rights section (4) carefully — it matters more than any other part for musicians.

The Founding Artist Pilot has its own separate agreement with additional terms. If you are a pilot participant, that agreement adds to these Terms; where a pilot-specific matter conflicts, the pilot agreement controls. These Terms are not that agreement.

1. Who can use SetLight

You must be at least 18 years old. By using SetLight you confirm that you are.

2. Your content is yours

You keep ownership of everything you upload and of the finished content SetLight makes from it. We do not claim ownership of your recordings, your music, or your publishing packs.

To operate the service, you grant SetLight a limited, operational licence to store, process and transform your uploads for the sole purpose of providing SetLight to you — for example transcribing, detecting songs, cutting clips, and generating thumbnails and copy. This licence exists only so the product can do its job. It is not a licence to publish, sell, or use your content for our own promotion. (Promotional use is a separate, explicit permission that only exists under the Founding Artist Pilot agreement, if you join it.)

3. What you promise about your uploads

You are responsible for what you upload. You represent and warrant that:

4. Music rights — read this

This is the part most likely to affect you, so it is stated plainly rather than buried.

Musicians perform songs they did not write, and platforms enforce music copyright automatically. SetLight cannot grant you rights to music you do not own, and using SetLight does not clear any music rights for you.

5. Publishing to platforms

SetLight prepares content; you decide what is published. SetLight will not post anything to your channels without your approval. When you connect a platform and publish through SetLight, that platform's own terms and policies also apply to your content, in addition to these Terms.

Publishing to social platforms is not switched on yet. Today SetLight prepares content for you to download and post yourself; automated publishing is planned but not active.

6. Beta service

SetLight is a beta product. Features may be incomplete or change, and behaviour can be unexpected. Its outputs are produced by automated and AI systems and can be wrong — a song boundary in the wrong place, an inaccurate title, an odd thumbnail. Always review what SetLight produces before you rely on or publish it. SetLight does not guarantee that any output is accurate, complete or fit to publish, and makes no promise about audience, views, growth or income.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to use SetLight to:

8. Subscription and payment (not active yet)

Billing is not switched on. No payment method is collected today and you cannot be charged. The terms below describe how paid plans will work when billing is enabled.

The standard plan will be US$49 per month. When billing is enabled:

9. Ending your use

You may stop using SetLight and delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy for how to request deletion). We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or if we need to for legal or security reasons. Content you have already downloaded remains yours.

10. Disclaimers

SetLight is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its output will be accurate or suitable for publication.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SetLight will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or reputational harm, arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold SetLight harmless from claims arising out of content you upload or publish, including claims that it infringes someone's rights or breaches the promises you made in sections 3 and 4, except to the extent the claim results from SetLight's own wrongdoing.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Where your local mandatory consumer-protection or privacy law gives you rights that cannot be waived by contract, those rights still apply.

14. Changes to these Terms

If we change these Terms we will post the new version here with a new version number and effective date, and show a notice inside the product for material changes. The version you accepted is recorded, so we can show you the exact text you agreed to. (We do not currently send these notices by email.)
